Development and Initial Validation of an Admission Test for Bachelor Psychology Studies

Extensive evidence clearly endorses the use of standardized reasoning ability tests and subject-specific knowledge as valid useful tools for admission-restricted study programs. Yet, are still rarely applied university admission in Germany. Instead, current practices predominantly based on grade point average (GPA) achieved high school. In present study, we report development validation a test battery into bachelor’s degree programs psychology German universities. Its compilation is driven by from international validity generalization, consensual models cognitive abilities, taxonomy B.Sc. It consists three subtests ability, two that tap relevant declarative knowledge, psychology-specific text comprehension tests. N = 371 freshmen five universities completed GPA was retrieved 2.5 years later. We confirmatory factor analyses structural equation modeling to investigate construct criterion battery. The results indicate individual tests, well battery, meet psychometric requirements. As expected, predicts substantially incrementally beyond school GPA. illustrate substantial added value achievement provide admissions.
